About Lee

author

Lee Mackenzie is an author and artist living and working in the Powell River Historic Townsite. She is also familiar to many people from her work as a broadcast journalist for many years.

In 1979 a summer backbacking trip to the United Kingdom resulted in a meeting with a man who was at first a friend. The friendship turned into marriage. The marriage turned into a disaster in every way as her husband was, in fact, an international con-man Kenner Elias Jones.

Decades later Lee was challenged to write a book and decided to use her story as the subject. The Charming Predator was picked up and published by Penguin Random House Canada in 2017.

From her many years as a broadcast journalist Lee had a finely-honed set of writing skills, but admits that it is a completely different thing to write about one’s self. Lee had parted from Kenner Elias Jones in the early 1980’s and removed him from her life. But recently he re-surfaced. The new elements of the story and the book itself are currently the subject of a documentary being produced in the United Kingdom and scheduled to be broadcast in early 2025.

Lee describes the impact of writing and sharing her story as “a challenge in creativity”, that turned into much, much more. She says the change the telling and healing brought to her life was immense. She hears often from readers that the reading of her story has given them quiet support and hope for themselves as well.
